Melons, asparagus and strawberries- all in abundance. With a clear blue sky and sunshine, Saturday morning in Aups was a busy, bustling morning in the market. With the seasonal range of mouth-watering produce, arts and crafts, good quality fashion stalls, plants for the flower and vegetable garden, demonstrations of the latest kitchen gadgets , there was something for everyone.
The warm morning increased business for the pavement cafes- a perfect way to sit and watch proceedings.
The town’s shopkeepers enticed tourists and locals alike, with their goods spilling out on to the pavements, adding colourful decoration to the medieval streets, along with the flowering pots adorning sills and steps.
However. only a few steps take the pedestrian away from the hustle and bustle and into the medieval backstreets which the passage of time has barely touched. The tall village houses shade the streets below offering shade to the seats where the villagers rest and catch up on the local gossip!
By lunchtime the market starts to pack up and the restaurant terraces start to fill up with those in search of a plat du jour. Meanwhile the other shoppers return home to lay out their purchases for a seasonal provencal feast.
